We recently had the pleasure to photograph the wedding of Natalie & Furquan at the wonderful Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge. Many famous people entertain here and I recall the Queens dinned here just before the Royal Wedding last year. I have been fortunate enough to shoot a number of weddings at the hotel over the years but not quite as big as this one.
Everything took place at the hotel so there were no concerns with travelling around London to churches. It was a long day; I left home at 9am with Jake my assistant and we left the reception in the Ballroom at around 11pm. So we were quite exhausted by then and ready for a good nights sleep.
After the ceremony we covered some groups photos and then went over to Hyde Park for some couple shots and then over to the main shopping area of Knightsbridge and some of the back streets. From my point of view as a photographer the big advantage of London weddings is the huge variety of backgrounds one can find in a short space of time. The architecture is of course amazing in London but when there are so many photo possibilities you need to be able as a photographer to think quickly to select out the locations that have the best light at the time of day you are shooting.
We finished up the couple photos with doing some inside the Mandarin Oriental itself. I like going to the very top of the hotel staircase as there is this wonderful glass canopy and beautiful marble stairs. We then went in the main lobby area and the Ballroom entrance lobby as these too are great places for photos although light is quite poor in these areas so I had to pull out the studio lights for these to look great.
