A day out in Brighton – HDR photos on Brighton beach; actually HDR look

Yesterday (Sunday) the weather was perfect for the time of year and so we decided to head for Brighton and went with our friends David and his girls. David is a videographer friend of our’s and so we thought we’d have some fun and try out some different photography techniques on the seafront. The light was perfect for a technique I love to use; off camera flash, and here’s a few from what I took. I’ve included a shot that shows the flash guns so you can see how the lighting effect is created. For those of you technically interested here’s a full rundown:

Camera 5D mk11, 25-105 @ 100iso. RAW processed in lightroom, then in PS with NIk tonal contrast and graduated filter, plus a bit of levels and vignette on some. Colour balance change. I like the HDR look with the off camera flash when given some tonal contrast adjustment in Nik software. Flash triggered by pocket wizards Mini & TT5 so I can use high speed sinc with off camera flash.

Brighton is a great location for a portrait photographer and I would love to do some enviromental portraits in and around Brighton and location shoots in Brighton for families and teenagers as it’s not too far away for me. If you like my photography and want to arrange a shoot in Brighton I’d love to hear from you.

Changing the way we shoot – wedding photos and woburn abbey scuplture gallery

About a year or so ago a new device was invented by a US company that allows the use of flash guns to used off camera and although that was nothing new what this new invention did was quite remarkable and without getting technical this allows those photographer that embrace the technology to revolutionize the way we can shoot with off camera flash and have full control over the light, as an example the image below was shot in daylight but I wanted to create a nightime look. What counts to brides and grooms of course is results and here is a small slide show of Friday’s wedding, my second one since introducing this in to my work. The beautiful quality of light is from off camera flashes; Friday was a pretty dull day but this isn’t now going to cause us any trouble as we now create the light and are no longer at the mercy of the British weather. Anyway you can be the judge as it’s what you my clienst and future clients think. I hope you enjoy the photos:
